High visibility fleece jackets

As parents, we try to teach our children to be aware and safe at all times. We instruct them to look both ways before crossing the road. We teach them to stay away from strangers. We require them to wear a helmet when riding a bike or roller skating. Yet, as our children participate in sporting events, we are not as safe. Children do not always wear the most protective of gear and they practice and attend games into the dark hours and in poor weather conditions. This summer, increase your child?s safety with these safety improvement clothing items.

Protection over comfort

One of the problems with summer sports is that children tend to wear less clothing. They may feel uncomfortable and too hot and choose not to wear padding, helmets, or cushioned clothing items. Always encourage protection over comfort. Ensure that your child has the safest protective items, based on the sport they are participating in. Invest in a pair of high quality shoes. Approximately $70 is spent per employee on foot protection per year. In many situations, children are exposed to just as harsh of conditions as those in dangerous working environments.

Sun protection

The sun is out and shining in full force during the summer months. Many of children?s sporting activities take place outdoors to take advantage of the nicer weather. Sunscreen should become a priority, even when the sky appears cloudy. It only takes a couple of minutes before the sun comes back out and the child?s skin is at risk. Additionally, remember to reapply frequently. Many sporting activities cause children to sweat, and the benefits of the sunscreen are lost within minutes. Clothing items like cotton safety shirts can be worn to block out the damaging rays of the sun. Also consider items like hats and sunglasses, when possible.

Hearing protection

Some sports, like soccer and hockey, can expose children to loud noises. This is especially true when there are loud announcers constantly yelling into the speakers. Over time, this can damage the ears. Children?s ears are still growing and this can have lasting damaging effects on the ears. Depending on the fit, earplugs can reduce noise by 15 to 30 decibels. Permanent hearing loss can be caused by sounds that are louder than 85 decibels. Always be aware of the loud sounds of sporting events and ensure that your child?s ears are protected.

Reflective pants and other reflective wear

Many sports go into the night, after the sun has already set. Although fields are usually well lit, the danger is when the child leaves the field. If your child plays or practices into the night, give them reflective pants and other high visibility clothing items. These reflective pants and fluorescent vests are perfect for early morning or late night runs. They ensure that drivers are easily able to identify them along the road. You will find a variety of high visibility clothing items available, including reflective pants and even high visibility hooded sweatshirts for the cool summer nights.

Weather protective clothing

The summer months also bring a lot of rain. While rain itself is not dangerous, the other severe weather conditions that it often brings can be. If your child is required to practice or play in games in extreme summer weather conditions, consider purchasing them breathable reflective rain gear. Not only will the gear protect them from heavy rain fall, but will make them visible to others through the rain.

Children and teen?s sports are not always the safest events. Some sporting activities require that teens practice before or after the sun as appeared. Summer weather can be unpredictable, with heavy rain falls. Even when the sun is shining, the skin is put at risk of severe burns. As your child moves into their summer sporting schedules, keep all of these safety tips in mind. Specialized clothing items can protect them from noise, the sun, summer weather conditions, and even after dark workouts.
